Yarlung Tsangpo Gorge Tour is one of mysterious tour in the “roof of the world” above the Qinghai-Tiber Plateau. Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Gorge is considered as one of the longest and deepest valley in the world. The turbulent rapids, impressive gorge, daunting peaks and exotic forests are the major attractions of the tour. This tour covers the best part of the eastern area of Tibet. Travelers can experience and witness the authentic culture, remote life and enjoy the dramatic views.

The stunning waters of the braided Yarling Tsangpo flows through huge swathe of land flanked by dramatic sand dunes and rich in Tibetan history. The Yarlung Tsango and nearby Chongye Valley formed the original seat of the Yarlung Dynasty of Tibetan king and was the major ancient trade route of India and Bhutan. Yarlung Tsangpo also known as the “Cradle of Tibetan Civilization” houses numbers of ancient monasteries, temples, caves, stupa and castles.

April to May and September to October are the time of the year to visit Yarlung Tsangpo Gorge. The months of September and October are the best months to trek and shoot in the valley. Before embarking for the trip to Yarlung Tsangpo Valley, you must consider following points strictly:

You must be aware of changeable weather. It is wise to bring some warm clothes with you
Roads are not in good conditions so you should be aware your care wisely
Carry extra food and water
Don’t forget to carry some medical kits as the proposed destination lies in high altitude and basically very remote

Detail Itinerary of Yarlung Tsangpo Gorge Tour

Day 01: Flight: Kathmandu to Gongar Airport and transfer to the hotel at Lhasa

Flight from Kathmandu to Gangor Airport and transfer to the hotel located around 95 km from airport that takes approximately 2 hours driving through Yerlung Tsangpo and the Lhasa Kyichu River.

Day 02: Lhasa: Sightseeing of Potala Palace, Jokhang temple and Barkor street

After breakfast, we set for sightseeing of historical and religious landmarks of Lhasa. We make an early morning visit to Potola Palace, the regional and political seat of Lhasa. This site is named after Mount Potalaka, the spiritual abode of Chenresig or Avalokitesvara. In afternoon, we explore Jokhang, one of oldest temple in Nepal built in 7th century. Walking around quaint Barkor Street offers you the spiritual and religious feelings.

Day 03: Lhasa: Sightseeing of Sera Monastery, Derapung Monastery and Norbulingka

After breakfast, we proceed to visit Sera Monastery located at the foot of Tatipu hill in the northern suburb of Lhasa city. It is one of three famous monasteries along with the Drepung Monastery and the Garden Monastery. Dedicated to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat Sect, it was founded by Tsong Khapa.

We also visit Drepung Monastery that is located at the lap of mountain Gambo Utse about 5 km west of the city. It is extended to an area of 299,000 and held 7,700 monks in total and possessed 141 fazendas and 540 pastures in its heyday.

Next, we proceed to visit Norbulingka (Jeweled Park) which was built in 1755 and is the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s ti 14th Dalai Lama exile in 1959.
We drive back to the hotel at Lhasa and rest overnight.

Day 04: Drive: Lhasa – Bayi

After breakfast, we proceed for overland tour to Bayi. Bayi, once simple settlement called Lhabagar, is a thriving town which is surrounded by verdant hills filled with lush and exotic forest. Located at an elevation of (2,900m), this town exhibits the pleasant climate and great scenery. It is located 406 kilometer east of Lhasa, Bayi town is major hub for farmers and herdsmen.
