8 days Tibet Lhasa Overland Tour via Kerung begins with an exotic drive over the Himalayas through Kodari Highway which connects Kathmandu with Lhasa. Enjoying the rugged Tibetan terrain, windswept route, high passes, turquoise-tinted lakes and snowy peaks, you make an overland journey to Lhasa. If you wish, you can travel to north Everest Base Camp or Kailash Mansarovar but that has to be arranged in advance.

In this 8 Tibet Overland Tour via Kerung, you will get an exceptional opportunities to explore age-old monasteries, historical sites and fascinating architecture in Tibet. You will explore impressive Tshihumpu Monastery in Shigatse, Khumbum Stupa in Gyantse and visit astonishing Potala Palace (the holy seat of Dalai Lama), Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery (largest monastery) and Drepung Monastery in Lhasa. Walking around the ancient Barkhor Market in Lhasa offers the deep insight of local culture and lifestyle. Detail Itinerary of Tibet overland Tour via Kerung

Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Kerung Border

After breakfast, we make an early morning drive to Kerung border via Pasang Lhamu highway. After 7 hours of drive, we reach the Nepal-Tibet border where we make the necessary immigration formalities and enter to the Chinese autonomous region. We cross the bridge at the border and reach the hotel where we stay overnight.

Day 02: Drive: Kerung to Tingri/Lhatse

After breakfast, we drive uphill to the highest plateau of the earth with amazing view of Tibetan arid landscapes. In clear weather, we can see the magnificent views of Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Shishapagma (8,012m) but dwarfed by the vastness of the Tibetan plateau. As we reach Tingri, we can enjoy the mesmerizing view of Mt. Everest (8,848m) (subject to clear weather).

Day 03: Drive: Tingri to Ronbuk

After breakfast, we start our drive to Ronbuk through arid landscapes and frequent switchbacks. Today, we explore Ronbuk monastery, one of highest monastery in the world and hike up to the Everest Base Camp.

Day 04: Drive: Ronbuk to Shigatse

After breakfast, we proceed towards Shingatse crossing Gyatchu La (5,200m) from where the road to Mt. Kailash forks to the west.

Day 05: Drive: Shigatse to Lhasa via Gyantse

After exploration of Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery, we continue our journey towards Gyantse. We stop at Gyantse and visit Kumbum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery. Next, we drive over Karo La (5,010m) and Kamba La (4,749m) and explore stunning Yamdrok-Tso Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo) on our way to Lhasa.

Day 06: Lhasa: Exploration Day

After early morning breakfast, we set for exploration of Lhasa city, the capital of Tibet. We visit Potala palace which was built in 7th century by Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo and later re-constructed by 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century in present form.

In afternoon, we visit Sera monastery located at the outskirt of Lhasa city, 5 km north. Built by Jamchen Choeji in 1419, Sera monastery (one of three Gelugpa sect) is one of the three major monasteries of yellow sect in Tibet.

Day 07: Lhasa: Exploration Day

After breakfast, we visit Drepung Monastery, the largest monastery of the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism in Lhasa which was built in 1416 by Jamyang Chojie a disciple of Tsongkhapa. We also visit Jokhang temple, one of the oldest temple in Lhasa. In the evening, we stroll around the religious Barkhor Street.

Day 08: Final Departure

Your journey to Lhasa via Kerung comes to an end today. Our airport representative will transfer to Lhasa airport for your final departure.
