Trip Overview

Namtso Lake, also known as “The Heavenly Lake” is the second biggest lake in Tibet. Set at an amazing background of grassland and snowy-peaks, this turquoise blue lake is located at 250km north-east of Lhasa. The view of Mt. Nying Cheng Thangla from the lake is spectacular. Namtso Lake Trek offers an enthralling experience of both natural and local nomad people. You can visit Tibetan nomads and ride horse or yak around the lake.

With spectacular backdrop of Danggula Mountain to its southeast direction, Namtso Lake Trek continues through several uphill and down section and high passes to reach spectacular lake surrounded by the vast grassland. The lake appears like huge mirrors with vast blue sky over the dark blue lake, white snow, green grass and colorful wild flowers.

Namtso Lake is well-known for precious medicinal materials like Chinese caterpillar fungus, fritillaries, snow-lotus and also various water species like thin-scale fish and no-scale fish. This exotic lake is also famous for many highland wild animals that includes blue bear, wild ox, wild donkey, blue sheep and marmot. Travelers can discover many Mani stones along the surrounding route of Namtso Lake.

Namtso Lake Trek starts after a scenic Trans-Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. We explore various cultural and heritage sites of Lhasa and join an overland trip to start the trek. We trek through remote and rugged terrain, isolated hamlets and high passes while exploring breathtaking semi-arid scenery. After the trek, we drive back to Lhasa for final departure.

Namtso Lake Trek is an ideal choice for avid travelers who wish to immerse deep into Tibetan culture and undertake a short hike in mysterious and remote part of Tibet to explore turquoise-tinted lake and majestic Himalayan ranges.
