Makalu Base Camp Trek, located at Middle Eastern part of Nepal is idyllic option for nature-lover seeking to experience unique nature and culture along the trail. The region is blessed with lush cultural beauty, immense beauty and great natural diversity.
Makalu, the fifth highest mountain and previously a restricted area spans over five m The world's fifth highest mountain, and formerly a restricted area, it spans five major ecological zones where can be found the lush, tropical Arun Valley, dense forests or rhododendron and fir and alpine meadows that lead to the might Barun glacier. From the base camp, one can view the spectacular Mt. Makalu.
The Makalu Base Camp trek in the eastern part of Nepal is a trek of unsurpassed beauty, towering Himalayan peaks, biological diversity and cultural heritage. This trek is a true adventure with scenery so beautiful that it will never tire you. The Makalu trek starts from Tumlingtar and follows the beautiful Arun River into the Makalu Barun National Park.
The panoramas from Ship ton pass and from above Makalu Base Camp are magnificent; especially at sunrise and sunset the scene is even more sublime. Due to its isolation and remoteness the Makalu trek still is a true adventure, even for experienced trekkers. It is regarded as strenuous trek and it is almost impossible without previous experience.

Day 03: Flight: Kathmandu – Tumlingtar and drive to Chichira (1,980m/6,497ft) – 50 minutes flight – 3-4 hours trek
Day 04: Chichira – Num (1,560m/5,119ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Day 05: Num – Seduwa (1,500m/4,922ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Day 06: Sedwa – Tashigaon (2,100m/6,890ft) – 4-5 hours trek
Day 07: Tashigaon – Khongma Danda (3,500m/11,483ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Day 08: Rest and Acclimatization day at Khongma Danda
Day 09: Khongma Danda – Dobate – 6-7 hours trek

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,428ft), Tribhuvan International Airport
Upon you arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Alpine Kailash Representative will meet you at arrival gate of airport. He will escort you to your hotel via private vehicle. Today, you will meet your trekking guide, get trek briefing and prepare yourself for trekking.
In evening, you will attend welcome dinner organized by Alpine Kailash and stay overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu: Exploration and trek preparation day
After breakfast, we begin our guided tour to several historic, antique and spiritual site in Kathmandu which are protected by UNESCO world heritage sites. Today, we explore quaint Durbar Square, Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple), Swayambhunath (2,000 years old monkey temple) and Boudhanath (largest Buddhist stupa). After sightseeing of UNESCO designated world heritage sites, we drive back to hotel and get our trekking gears checked by our trekking leader and discuss about the trip Alpine Kailash’s office.

Day 03: Flight: Kathmandu – Tumlingtar and drive to Chichira (1,980m/6,497ft) – 50 minutes flight – 3-4 hours trek
Today, we fly to Tumlingtar and meet our local porter in the airport. Next, we make a drive to Chichira for 50 minutes. We rest at Chichira and make necessary preparation for next day trip.

Day 04: Chichira – Num (1,560m/5,119ft) – 6-7 hours trek
After early morning breakfast, we start with gradual pace through the lush vegetation and several small settlement which leads us to Num. It is ridge line village with great views on both side.

Day 05: Num – Seduwa (1,500m/4,922ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Today, we climb down steeply through the forested route and cultivated fields to Barun River. We cross Barun River and ascent steeply to reach the others side of ridge. The trail is quite hot today but the shadow of the forest make us comfortable to walk. Now, we enter into Makalu Barun National Park and get the permits registered at the checkpoint. We camp overnight at the top of Seduwa village.

Day 06: Sedwa – Tashigaon (2,100m/6,890ft) – 4-5 hours trek
Today, we ascend the ridge bounded by the Ipsuwa Khola to the west and Kasua Khola to the east. We walk on the hillside trail and cross picturesque village and small fields to reach the exotic village of Tashi Gaon. Here, we will be surrounded by the panoramic Himalaya range.

Day 07: Tashigaon – Khongma Danda (3,500m/11,483ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Today, we will negotiate with steep terrain that leads us to higher elevation. We climb though the steep forested trail to the stream and finally to the ridge. From here, the trail follows more steeper section and passes a Karka (grazing land) and continue through the series of stone staircase and small lakes that finally climbs up to the ridge. A short hike down from the ridge takes us to Khongma Danda.

Day 08: Rest and Acclimatization day at Khongma Danda
Today, we stop at Khongma Danda for acclimatization. We stay active, climb high and sleep low today. We walk around the village and explore local culture and tradition.

Day 09: Khongma Danda – Dobate – 6-7 hours trek
After breakfast, we climb to the Shipton La (Pass), walk to the lake Kalo Pokhari and climb further to cross the Keke La pass (4,170m). The summit of Keke La offers the magnificent views of Chamlang (7,321m), Peak 6 (6,524m) and Peak (6,758m). After crossing Keke La Pass, we drop off through the stunning valley that leads us to Dobate.

Day 10: Dobate – Yangri Kharka (3,557m/11,670ft) – 6-7 hours trek
From Dobate, we walk across the rhododendron forest which eventually takes us to Barun River and upper part of the river valley. It is importation to take caution for first two hours of the trek as the trail is steep and arduous. Now, we make an easy walk and gain altitude at gradual pace to reach Yangri Kharka.

Day 11: Yangri Kharka – Langmale Kharka (4,410m/14,468ft) – 5-6 hours trek
After breakfast, we walk on a moderate trail to the valley and continue through the yak pastures, lush forest and bolder strewn fields/. We continue through the Merek Pass as we start gaining elevation and notice a significant rise in Himalayan views.

Day 12: Langmale Kharka – Makalu Base Camp (4,870m/15,978ft) – 6-7 hours trek
Today, we walk beyond Langmale Kharka, cross Shershong to reach Makalu Base Camp. We walk through the flat trail with icy glacier and snowy peaks surrounding us. Gigantic Mt. Makalu appears so-close as we approach Shershong. As we walk to the camp, we get the panoramic view of Himalayan ranges.

Day 13: Exploration: Makalu Base Camp
The Base Camp of Mt. Makalu is rocky barren place with Barun Glacier beside it. Base camp features the great south face of Makalu and magnificent view of Everest and Lhotse. We can explore the lake, glacier and surrounding landscapes.

Day 14: Makalu Base Camp – Yangri Kharka – 6-7 hours trek
We climb down from the base camp and enjoy the last view of Makalu before make a turn on our way back to Yangri Kharka. We walk across Shershong, Langmale Kharka, Merek and finally reach Yangri Kharka.

Day 15: Yangri Kharka – Dobate – 6-7 hours trek
From Yangri Kharka, we walk through the rock falls, verdant forest and valley to reach the village of Dobate. We walk alongside of Barun River for most part of the trail.

Day 16: Dobate – Khongma Danda – 5-6 hours trek
Today, we cross Keke La, Tutu La (Shipton’s Pass) and Kauma La to reach Khongma Danda. We walk through the steep trail from Dobate to Mumbuk and continue through the lush forest of rhododendron and firs. Crossing Keke La, Tutu La (Shipton’s Pass) and Kauma La, we finally drop down to Khongma Danda.

Day 17: Khongma Danda – Tashigaon – 4-5 hours trek
We walk along the hillside and make frequent and long descend to reach Tashigaon. The enters deep into the thick and verdant forest of rhododendron and fir to reach the village of Tashigaon, the indigenous Sherpa village.

Day 18: Tashigaon – Seduwa – 4-5 hours trek
Today, we leave the Makalu Barun National Park behind and climb down to the Barun River. Crossing the river and walking through the hillside, we pass several settlements as we finally drop down to Sedwa.

Day 19: Seduwa – Num – 5-6 hours trek
Today, we leave Seduwa behind and walk across the lush forest to reach the Num village. The trail negotiate several ups and downs through lush forest on the way to Num.
Day 20: Num – Tumlingtar – 6-7 hours trek
After breakfast, we retrace our step through the Chihira which offers the glimpse of Mt. Makalu. The final return leg of the trek allows us to rest overnight at Tumlingtar.

Day 21: Tumlingtar – Kathmandu – 50 min flight
Today, we fly back to Kathmandu to conclude our long day trek. We take at rest day off in the hotel. In the evening, we celebrate our successful trip to the Makalu Base Camp and back with a farewell dinner
