Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one most popular and frequently visited trekking route in Annapurna region of Nepal. Also known as Annapurna sunrise view trek, it offers great photographic opportunities of 78+ milky peaks above 6,000m stretching from Dhaulagiri (8,167m) to the west, across 80 km Annapurna range to the north and Manaslu (8,163m) to the north east.

8 days Poon Hill Trek itinerary is designed for passionate walkers who are reasonably fit with limited vacation in Nepal. 25 minutes of scenic flight takes you to the city of Lake – Pokhara, the major getaway of Annapurna region trek.

This short and easy trek kicks off with 1.5 hour switchback drive through zigzag road to Nayapul. The trail follows the forested route of bamboo, oak and rhododendron and pass several farming village as you climb up to the ridge to the village of Tikhedhunga (1,495m) and the overnight village of Ulleri (1,950m).

The trail becomes more scenic as you start gaining the height offering the stunning view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Macchapuchhare. Further, the trail immerse deep into the lush and tranquil forest of oak, rhododendron, maple and hemlock as it gradually climbs up to the Ghorepani (2,850m).

A pre-dawn hike to the Poon Hill ridge rewards you with astounding sunrise over the expanse of snowy peaks to the north. We retrace back via same route to Nayapul where we board vehicle and drive back to our hotel.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is possible to conduct throughout the year however (September to November) during autumn and (March to May) during spring are the best time of the year for the trek.

Day 03: Kathmandu – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) – 5-6 hours trek

Day 04: Pokhara – Nayapul – Tikhedhunga (1,495m/4,905ft) – Ulleri (1,950m/6,395ft) – 1.5 hour drive – 5-6 hours trek

Day 05: Ulleri – Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) – 5-6 hours trek – 11 km

Day 06: Ghorepani – Poon Hill (3,210m/10,528ft) – Nayapul – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) – 6-7 hours trek & 1.5 hour drive

Day 07: Drive from Pokhara – Kathmandu – 5-6 hours trek

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport (1,300m/4,265ft)

Upon you arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Alpine Kailash Representative will meet you at arrival gate of airport. He will escort you to your hotel via private vehicle. Today, you will meet your trekking guide, get trek briefing and prepare yourself for trekking.
In evening, you will attend welcome dinner organized by Alpine Kailash and stay overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu: Exploration and trek preparation day

After breakfast, we begin our guided tour to several historic, antique and spiritual site in Kathmandu which are protected by UNESCO world heritage sites. Today, we explore quaint Durbar Square, Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple), Swayambhunath (2,000 years old monkey temple) and Boudhanath (largest Buddhist stupa). After sightseeing of UNESCO designated world heritage sites, we drive back to hotel and get our trekking gears checked by our trekking leader and discuss about the trip Alpine Kailash’s office.

Day 03: Kathmandu – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) – 5-6 hours trek

After breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along the countryside and follow the down steam of Trishuli River. Upon arrival at Pokhara, we check into hotel and rest overnight.

Day 04: Pokhara – Nayapul – Tikhedhunga (1,495m/4,905ft) – Ulleri (1,950m/6,395ft) – 1.5 hour drive – 5-6 hours trek

After breakfast, we drive through the zigzag route to Nayapul, the starting point of the trek. We join a trail head to Birethanti, a large and warm village residing at the junction of Modi and Bhurungdi kholas. We climb up to Sudame and further ascend to Tikhedhunga. Further, we cross a suspension bridge and climb up through steep staircase to the village of Ulleri.

Day 05: Ulleri – Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) – 5-6 hours trek – 11 km

After breakfast, we begin our trekking through the forested route of rhododendron and oak. Though, the walk is strenuous, the scenery will provide energy to continue walk as you immerse yourself into the walk. We overnight in Upper Ghorepani (Deurali) which ensures the best view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas.

Day 06: Ghorepani – Poon Hill (3,210m/10,528ft) – Nayapul – Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) – 6-7 hours trek & 1.5 hour drive

Today, we make a pre-dawn hike up to Poon Hill (3,210m/10,530ft) for 45 minutes, the route is filled with colorful rhododendron forest. The poon hill ridge offers unobstructed view of sunrise of Himalayan horizon and the extensive view of Himalayan vistas stretching from Himalayas of Dolpo to the far western, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchre (Fish Tail) and Manaslu to the far west. After exploration, we hike down to Naya Pul and take a short drive to Pokhara.

Day 07: Drive from Pokhara – Kathmandu – 5-6 hours trek

After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu on tourist bus or private van. En route – we enjoy the best view of mid hill scenery, cultivated fields and quaint villages. After reaching Kathmandu, we take a rest day off and catch last minute shopping in the evening.
We attend farewell dinner organized by Alpine Kailash at typical Nepali restaurant with cultural show.

Day 08: Final Departure

You journey in Nepal ends today. You will be escorted to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. If you wish, you can plan your next Nepal adventure.
